Microsoft Replaces Chief People Officer Amid Performance Review Overhaul

Microsoft has replaced its chief people officer as part of a broader overhaul of its performance review process. CEO Satya Nadella announced the change, citing the need for the company to continually adapt and transform itself in response to rapid industry changes.

Kathleen Hogan, who served as chief people officer since 2014, will transition to a new role as executive vice president of the “Office of Strategy and Transformation.” She will focus on defining Microsoft’s corporate strategy and structure while leading the company’s transformation efforts.

Amy Coleman, a longtime HR executive, has taken over as the new chief people officer. Coleman has led various HR roles across the company for 25 years, including partnering with engineering, sales, marketing, and business development teams.

Nadella praised Coleman’s commitment to operational excellence and high performance, saying she will be key in driving Microsoft’s continued success. The change comes amid a shift in the tech industry towards more rigor and less coddling of employees, following the company’s decision to let nearly 2,000 low-performers go in January and February.
