A massive outage at Microsoft on Monday has crippled various services, including Microsoft 365 and impacted global users of Teams, Outlook, and Exchange emails. The tech giant reported that it identified a recent change as the cause of the problem and started to revert the change while investigating what additional actions are required.
Microsoft said it had deployed a fix and began manual restarts on machines in an unhealthy state. As of noon ET, the fix had reached about 98% of affected environments. The issues follow a July meltdown caused by a corrupted update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike that crashed systems worldwide running Microsoft Windows.
The company has not disclosed what specific change led to the latest outage. However, it plans to provide an estimated time for resolution as soon as available. In the meantime, users are advised to check the official updates on Microsoft’s social media channels for the latest information.
