Microsoft Simplifies Quick Machine Recovery for Easier System Fixing

Microsoft is testing an updated version of its Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) feature, which enables IT administrators to resolve Windows boot failures remotely without requiring a clean install. QMR was introduced in November 2024 as part of the company’s Windows Resiliency Initiative.

The new update allows users to toggle QMR on and off without needing a full system reset. This change will help improve user experience by reducing the need for manual troubleshooting steps.

Additionally, Microsoft has simplified Smart App Control (SAC), which is now enabled in System Recovery settings to run a one-time scan to fix systems experiencing booting problems. If a fix isn’t available right away, QMR will quickly point users to the most suitable recovery options.

These updates are currently rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels who have installed Build 26220.7070 (KB5070300).
