Microsoft is ending support for legacy v3 and v4 printers via Windows Update by July 1, 2027. However, this means your printer will still work, and you can get future updates from the manufacturer.
As of January 15, 2026, no new drivers will be published to Windows Update for Windows 11+ devices. Starting July 1, 2026, existing driver rankings have been modified to prioritize Windows IPP inbox class driver. On July 1, 2027, non-security related updates won’t be available through Windows Update.
Don’t worry; your printer will continue to function, and you can obtain future updates from the manufacturer’s website or by using an installation package provided by the device maker. Microsoft has already started treating printer drivers on a case-by-case basis since September 2023.
