Microsoft Stops Official Guide for Installing Windows 11 on Unsupported PCs

Microsoft has quietly removed its official instructions on how to install Windows 11 on an unsupported Windows 10 machine. The workaround, which allowed users to manually upgrade their PC, was first posted in October 2021 and remained untouched until mid-December, when it disappeared from the Microsoft support article.

The guide provided a way for users to modify their Windows 10 registry to install Windows 11, as long as their PC supported a TPM 1.2 chip. However, Microsoft never officially endorsed this method, warning that installing Windows 11 on an unsupported PC could lead to compatibility problems.

Although the official guide is no longer available, the instructions haven’t been lost entirely. Users can still use a third-party tool or pay for Windows 10 extended support as an alternative. With Microsoft ending official support for Windows 10 on October 14, users are now advised to upgrade to Windows 11 or roll back to Windows 10 immediately if they’ve already installed the OS on an unsupported machine.
