Microsoft is testing a revamped version of the infamous “Blue Screen of Death” (BSOD) in a new Windows 11 preview release. The redesigned error screen aims to simplify the stop error with more blank space and a smaller font, aligning with Windows 11’s design principles. This change is part of Microsoft’s efforts to streamline the user interface for unexpected restarts.
A black version of the BSOD was spotted in test builds from 2021, but it appears that users can expect the classic blue screen to remain unchanged. However, on Windows Insiders, a “green screen” version has been observed in the Beta, Dev, and Canary Channels, running on Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher.
For now, fans of Microsoft’s iconic error screen will have to wait and see if this redesign sticks around.
