Microsoft Tests New Windows 11 Platform Changes in Dev Channel

Microsoft has started testing a new phase of Windows 11 updates in the Dev Channel, which aims to improve underlying platform work for version 24H2 and possibly 25H2. The latest preview build brings changes that were previously available only in the Canary Channel, including support for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 SoC.

These changes are part of a broader effort to backport improvements from other channels to Germanium-based Windows 11, which is the underlying platform release used by version 24H2. This approach allows Microsoft to service both versions simultaneously with bug fixes and feature updates, reducing fragmentation between different platforms.

The goal is to move all users onto the same platform release, currently called Germanium. With Windows 10’s support ending in October, this could be an opportunity for Microsoft to get as many users on the same platform, potentially using Germanium as that release. However, Selenium for client has not been officially announced yet.

Version 25H2 is expected to release later this year and will build upon the same platform release as version 24H2. The backporting of changes suggests it may use the same underlying platform, but Microsoft has not confirmed this.
