Microsoft to Display Secure Boot Certificate Status in Windows Security

Microsoft is introducing a new feature in its Windows Security app, starting April 2026, which will display the status of Secure Boot certificate updates on devices. This update aims to inform users about their device’s Secure Boot certificate status and help them take necessary actions.

If you own a PC from 2024 or earlier, you likely won’t need to download a new Secure Boot certificate. However, if your PC is older, you’ll receive an update through Windows Update that will allow you to install the new Secure Boot certificate. Microsoft has implemented a system where users can check their certificate status through the device security section.

The updated feature will display different icons in the Windows Security app:

– Green: Indicates no issues with the current certificate
– Yellow: Indicates the need for manual update
– Red: Indicates vulnerability that prevents obtaining a new security certificate

You’ll receive notifications about your certificate status, and additional improvements to this feature are rolling out in May 2026. More information is available on Microsoft’s Secure Boot certificate update status page.
