Microsoft is set to roll out 11 new AI agents for its security-focused Copilot tool, aiming to offload repetitive tasks from cybersecurity teams. The move is part of a broader effort to reduce burnout and boost efficiency through AI-powered automation.
The US cybersecurity job market is facing a severe shortage, with only enough professionals to fill 83% of available positions, according to federal data. Security teams spend an average of three hours per day responding to alerts, with some teams receiving over 4,400 alerts daily.
Microsoft’s new agents will focus on specific tasks such as detecting phishing emails and crafting notification letters. Customers can configure the level of access and autonomy for each agent, including whether it acts independently or under a human account.
The company has taken customer feedback into consideration, with corporate VP Vasu Jakkal stating that the new agents are an “inflection point” for Microsoft. Partners such as OneTrust, Aviatrix, BlueVoyant, Tanium, and Fletch will also be rolling out their own security agents in Copilot.
Microsoft’s goal is to provide more autonomous functionality to customers while addressing customer pain points. The company plans to roll out additional security agents in the near future.
