Microsoft Unveils Copilot Voice with Free AI-Powered Assistant Feature

Microsoft has entered the AI-powered voice assistant market with its latest update to Copilot, a multimodal AI assistant that can engage in multi-turn conversations and respond to emotions. The feature, called Copilot Voice, offers four different voices: Wave, Meadow, Grove, and Canyon.

Unlike some competitors like ChatGPT’s Voice Mode, which requires a $20 monthly subscription, Copilot Voice is free for all users. This makes it more accessible than Google’s Gemini Live, which is limited to Android devices at no cost but lacks the same level of feature availability as Copilot Voice.

In testing, the writer was impressed with Copilot Voice’s performance, noting its ability to understand background noise and provide clear responses without needing explicit word-by-word input. The assistant also demonstrated quick wit and timeliness in its responses, making it comparable to human conversations.

Copilot Voice showed promise in handling complex tasks like resolving pet adoption issues, asking follow-up questions to better understand the problem, and offering practical solutions similar to those provided by humans.

When compared to Gemini Live and ChatGPT’s Voice Mode, Copilot Voice offers a more inclusive approach with its free availability across multiple platforms. The rollout for Voice Mode is underway, allowing users to access the feature through their Microsoft account or the Copilot app on mobile devices.
