Microsoft Unveils Major Windows 11 Feature Drop for September

Microsoft is preparing its next major feature drop for Windows 11 users in September, bringing improvements to various system features, including Copilot+ and non-Copilot+ features.

The update includes enhancements to Windows Search, such as displaying images in a grid view when searching for them. Users will also receive notifications when files are still being indexed, which may not provide accurate results during the indexing process.

Customizable widgets have been added to the lock screen on Windows 11, allowing users to choose which widgets appear and including third-party options. The redesigned Windows Hello interface will also be available, providing a cleaner and easier-to-use authentication experience for those using biometrics.

Quality of life improvements include modernized Settings and permission popups, the ability to display seconds in the Taskbar calendar flyout, and an updated Task Manager that uses standard metrics to show CPU workload. Copilot+ users will receive updates to Recall, Click To Do, and File Explorer, including a new landing page for Recall, a tutorial for Click To Do, and an AI-powered Actions feature.

The update also includes fixes and general quality of life improvements. Microsoft is still working on several big features, including a customizable Start menu, a better system-wide dark mode, and an AI companion feature for the Taskbar. The company will release Windows 11 version 25H2 later this year, which will share the same platform release and servicing stack as version 24H2.

The September feature drop is expected to be made generally available in the coming weeks, with more information available on the Windows Blog.
