Microsoft has announced the release of Office LTSC (Long Term Servicing Channel) 2024, a special package designed specifically for businesses that prioritize stability and security over feature updates. This new version of Office doesn’t require an internet connection to run and will not change or update once installed.
Office LTSC is ideal for industries handling sensitive information, such as healthcare, where the risk of hackers or malicious updates can be devastating. The company notes that while Microsoft 365 offers features like Copilot, which “unlocks the transformative power of AI,” some businesses may still prefer a stable and secure environment without the need for constant updates.
Commercial and government volume-licensed customers can access Office LTSC 2024 immediately, with general availability set to arrive on October 1st. Businesses using this version will receive five years of security and general support under the Fixed Lifecycle Policy.
For consumers, Microsoft has promised more information on a subscription-free version of Office 2024 in the coming weeks, although a trial version is already available for testing.
