Microsoft has announced the next version of Windows 11, dubbed Windows 11 25H2, and stated that the upgrade process will be significantly smoother compared to its predecessor. The update will be delivered via a “shared servicing branch,” allowing Microsoft to send missing code directly to users’ PCs via Windows Update, reducing download sizes by approximately 40%.
In contrast to the recent Windows 11 24H2 update in early 2025, which required an intensive full-code swap taking around two hours on older machines, the new approach promises faster deployment. Microsoft plans to quietly download the necessary components and then activate them via an enablement package, requiring users only to reboot their devices.
To verify the new version of Windows 11, users can check by visiting Settings > System > About. However, the company has not announced a release date for Windows 11 25H2, with historical trends suggesting it may arrive in September or October. The feature set for this update remains unknown, but two test builds have been released, showcasing the integration of Recall technology with 1Password.
