Microsoft has released its December 2025 updates for Windows users, but they come with mixed results. Starting with the Appxsvc service, which handles Store apps and updates, it will now automatically start up in Windows 11 24H2/25H2 and Server 2025 updates (KB5072033). However, this may cause a performance hit on lower-end hardware as it consumes CPU and RAM.
On the other hand, Microsoft is introducing Native NVMe support to boost performance. This opt-in feature avoids older SCSI processes, increasing input/output operations per second by up to 80% and reducing CPU usage by nearly 45%. However, this change may require users to opt-in, which could impact Store functionality if not turned off.
The updates follow a rough patch for Windows, with recent issues including SSD failures and performance drops. The latest update seems to be another example of Microsoft’s “fix one thing, break another” approach, highlighting the need for careful testing and optimization.
