Microsoft Updates Windows 11 Support for Older Intel CPUs

Microsoft has updated its list of supported Intel processors for the Windows 11 24H2 update, removing older models such as the 8th, 9th, and 10th Gen chips. However, this change does not affect users who have already installed these processors on their PCs.

According to Microsoft, the updated list is only intended for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and is an instruction to build new systems with the Windows 11 24H2 update using Intel 11th Gen processors or newer. This means that device makers will now be required to use at least the 11th Gen chips when launching new systems with the update.

Despite this change, users who have existing PCs with older Intel CPUs can still upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 if they haven’t already done so. Microsoft has not altered its minimum system requirements for the update.

For those looking to install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC, there are still ways to do so using workarounds and tweaks. Details of how to proceed will be explored in a separate article.
