Microsoft’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, is shifting his focus to measure consumer adoption of its AI assistant, Copilot. The company tracks daily and weekly active users, distribution, and usage intensity for the consumer offering. However, Suleyman prioritizes the rate of successful sessions (SSR) as a key metric.
In an era where consumers provide more real-time feedback on software, Suleyman is leveraging anonymized logs to analyze sentiment and extract insights. He joined Microsoft about a year ago after leading startup Inflection AI. The company has seen a significant increase in SSR over the past four months, which informs its optimization efforts.
Suleyman declined to disclose the exact rate or other metrics, but emphasized the importance of improving Copilot’s performance. The company recently announced new features for Copilot, including personalized podcasts and a tool to help users research complex queries.
