Microsoft’s Email Platforms Under Scrutiny as AI Threats Rise

A new report by At-Bay highlights the need for improved security measures in email platforms, particularly at work, as the threat landscape is set to undergo an AI revolution. The report emphasizes the importance of transitioning to cloud-based email solutions, such as Microsoft’s Exchange Online or Microsoft 365, to mitigate security risks and ensure proactive vulnerability management.

According to At-Bay, organizations that used Google Workspace experienced a 54% lower frequency of incidents on average compared to the overall average. This is attributed to features included by default in Gmail, such as real-time scanning for phishing emails, automatic security updates, and integrated threat intelligence.

Microsoft has confirmed that Exchange 2016 and Exchange 2019 will reach the end of extended support in October and shared guidance for those who need to decommission outdated servers. The company recommends migrating to Exchange Online or Microsoft 365 to take advantage of a material security step-up, including advanced generative AI technologies.

The report’s findings serve as a warning to businesses and individuals to review their email settings and consider making changes to improve security. With the rise of AI threats, it is essential to stay ahead of the curve and adopt more secure email platforms.
