Microsoft’s Gaming Strategy Shift: “Embrace and Move On”

Microsoft veteran Mike Ybarra says the company’s shift in releasing its games on multiple platforms won’t change his loyalty. Following 19 years with the company, Ybarra now leads Xbox as a publisher.

In recent months, Microsoft has seen an increase in sending popular titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones to both PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This move marks a change from the past year’s strategy, when only Xbox exclusives were available.

Head of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer explained this shift by saying he no longer aims to convert PlayStation and Nintendo fans into Xbox users. Instead, his goal is to allow more people to play games across different platforms.

Ybarra believes this new approach will benefit both Microsoft and its players. By making games available on PC, PS5, and other consoles, the company can increase revenue and build a stronger portfolio of titles.

However, not everyone is pleased with this change. Ybarra acknowledges that loyal Xbox fans might be upset, but he advises them to “embrace and move on.” The key, according to Ybarra, is to play on the console or platform you enjoy most.

Additionally, Ybarra suggests a potential solution: a friends transfer system between platforms. He believes this would help players stay connected with their online friends, even if they switch consoles.

Ybarra emphasizes that Microsoft will continue to support its games across all available platforms.
