Microsoft’s Latest Windows Update Brings Nasty Surprises

Microsoft is warning users that its latest critical software release for Windows 11 and 10 may cause problems, including crashing PCs with a Blue Screen of Death. The update, KB5053598, was meant to provide security fixes but has instead been plagued by issues.

The update was released automatically as part of the March 2025 Patch Tuesday cycle, which also brought zero-day vulnerabilities. However, users are reporting various problems, such as PCs failing to boot after the patch and issues with Remote Desktop Session (RDP).

Tests have shown that the update gets stuck at different percentages during download and installation. Some users have reported a “Something didn’t go as planned” error message, while others experience a system restart at 30%. Microsoft has documented many of these glitches and recommends uninstalling the problematic update.

As the end-of-support deadline for Windows 10 approaches in October, upgrades to Windows 11 are accelerating, with potentially 800 million users still to make the switch. With so many reported issues, it’s unclear why updates have been plagued by problems this year, but Microsoft needs to address these concerns to prevent user frustration.

Note: Microsoft has not commented on these reports yet.
