Microsoft has introduced a roadmap for Windows 11, taking customers from now until April 2025. The move aims to increase transparency and clarity on upcoming features. However, the expected availability dates are often too close together, leaving IT professionals with little time to prepare.
The roadmap highlights Microsoft’s tendency to leave functionality in preview without clear dates for general availability. This includes features like Click to Do? and Recall, which have been available since November 2024.
In contrast, consumer-focused features tend to receive more prominent attention. The company has stated that the roadmap is initially focused on client devices, where most improvements and new features will be added.
Despite its limitations, the Windows 11 roadmap should be welcomed as it simplifies the process for IT professionals to discover upcoming changes. However, administrators will still be waiting for estimates of when enterprise-focused features, such as improved printing functionality and updates to Windows Server, will arrive.
