Former MOTÖRHEAD and SCORPIONS drummer Mikkey Dee has spoken out about his recent battle with sepsis, a life-threatening condition caused by an overactive immune response to an infection. The 61-year-old musician was hospitalized for three weeks after developing the condition, which he contracted while recovering from a foot sprain in December.
Mikkey revealed that he unknowingly took painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication, which worsened his symptoms. He was rushed to the hospital, where surgery was performed to remove infected tissue. After several operations, Mikkey has made a remarkable recovery and is now focused on returning to his drumming career.
In an exclusive interview with Aftonbladet, Mikkey shared that he was just one day away from passing away after the final surgery. He expressed gratitude for the excellent care he received at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg and thanks the doctors and nurses who treated him.
Mikkey Dee will return to the drum stool with SCORPIONS’ upcoming Las Vegas residency show, which kicks off on February 27, 2025. The band will celebrate their 60th anniversary and perform a series of exclusive shows at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
