Metal legend Mikkey Dee has opened up about his recent battle with sepsis, a serious condition where the body responds improperly to an infection. The 61-year-old drummer, known for his work with Motorhead and Scorpions, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook thanking fans for their well-wishes during the holiday season.
Dee revealed that he was hospitalized for three weeks due to a severe blood infection before being discharged and sent home to continue his recovery. He expressed gratitude towards the doctors and nurses who provided him with “excellent care” at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, where he received treatment.
Despite facing several operations and still undergoing rehabilitation, Dee is working hard to recover and get back behind the drums for his residency starting in Las Vegas on February 27. The drummer is optimistic about 2025, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and looking forward to exciting giggs around the world.
Dee initially discussed his sepsis battle with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet last month, revealing that he developed the condition after spraining his foot. He described the symptoms as “hell” and shared a graphic description of how his ankle became severely infected before undergoing surgery.
However, despite the challenges, Dee is grateful for the treatment he received and is determined to make a full recovery in time for his upcoming residency.
