Miller Family Expands Soccer Ownership in Utah

The Miller family is expanding its sports ownership portfolio by acquiring controlling interest in RSL Football Holdings, which runs both Real Salt Lake in MLS and Utah Royals FC in the NWSL. The acquisition was announced Friday at America First Field, featuring commissioners from both leagues, along with Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

Former majority owner David Blitzer will remain on as the second-largest owner behind the Millers, while Smith Entertainment Group exits the soccer sphere. Commissioner Don Garber called the announcement the largest club announcement he has attended in MLS and praised the momentum and vision of soccer in Utah.

Steve Miller, chairman of the Larry H. Miller Company, will serve as chairman and governor for both clubs. The new ownership maintains a commitment to keeping teams in Sandy and plans to develop areas around America First Field to enhance the gameday experience.

The value of the sale to the Millers was reported at $600 million. The ownership transition comes at an interesting point in time, with the MLS transfer window closing on April 23, and reports claiming RSL is pushing to bring in a proven striker before that deadline.
