Amanda Kempton, a marine biologist and suspected killer of Million Dollar Beach House star Sara Burack, pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal car accident on June 21. Kempton’s lawyer claimed she thought she hit a traffic cone and that alcohol was not a factor in the case.
Burack, 40, died from her injuries after the incident on June 19 at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Montauk Highway. The Southampton resident was found unconscious near Villa Paul Restaurant before being taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Kempton, 32, had initially fled the scene and was set to return to Virginia for a wedding on June 21. Her lawyer stated that Kempton’s family put up collateral in lieu of the $100,000 bail.
Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident is a class D felony in New York, punishable by up to seven years in prison. Kempton was released from custody on the condition that she returns for her next court appearance.
This incident has been reported as unrelated to alcohol use, with Kempton’s lawyer maintaining that the event was mistaken for a traffic cone collision.
