Millions Protest Trump’s Dismantling of Agencies and Attacks on Rights

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Washington, D.C. and cities across the nation to protest President Donald Trump’s actions, including dismantling federal agencies, imposing sweeping tariffs, and targeting social welfare programs.

Protesters held signs with messages such as “Hands off democracy!” and “No moral person wants an economy-crashing dictator.” They also wore costumes, waved flags, and carried canines wearing “dogs against doge” collars.

Representatives from various groups, including MoveOn.org and Women’s March, spoke out against Trump’s policies. Jacovich, a spokesperson for MoveOn.org, said the protests are about stopping Trump’s power grab and protecting democratic values. Rachel O’Leary Carmona, executive director of Women’s March, emphasized that the rallies focus on abortion rights, civil rights issues, and social welfare programs.

The event was organized by various groups, with organizers anticipating a crowd of 10,000 but estimating it to be at least five times larger than predicted. The White House postponed spring garden tours due to the expected size of the event.

Participants included Howard Bass, a retired employee who relies heavily on Social Security and Medicare, and Janice and Martin Benton, a couple from Maryland who worry about cuts to these programs and the impact on their community.

Former President Barack Obama’s speech earlier this week urged law firms, universities, and individuals to stand up for democratic values and resist Trump. The protesters echoed his call, demonstrating that opposition to Trump is growing and widespread.
