Former F1 team boss Gian Carlo Minardi believes a five-second penalty was insufficient for Max Verstappen’s racing incident with Oscar Piastri at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Instead, he suggests a drive-through penalty would have been more fitting. The incident occurred when Verstappen took the lead after cutting Turn 2 from Piastri, who had taken the corner. The stewards initially gave Verstappen a five-second penalty, but Minardi thinks this was too lenient given the advantage gained by his actions and the fact that he recovered quickly to finish in second place just two seconds behind Piastri. A drive-through penalty would have required Verstappen to slow down during his pit stop, which would have been more consistent with the infraction.
