A north Minneapolis man quickly sprang into action when a boy shouted that his 11-year-old brother had been shot down the street. Troy Young, a Marine and professional calf roper, jumped into his pickup truck and sped to the scene. He found a teenager holding Amir Atkins, an 11-year-old from Hopkins who suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by medical responders, Amir died from a head wound. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed Amir’s identity and ruled the death as homicide.
