Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has named Anthony Sledwards as the winner of this year’s Name a Snowplow contest in the metro area. The contest, now in its fifth year, aims to highlight the work of the state’s 1,600 snowplow operators across the state. More than 7,300 submissions were received, with staff narrowing down the list to 50 finalists for public voting.
Sledwards’ name was chosen as a nod to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ superstar. Walz praised the creativity and cleverness of Minnesotans who participated in the contest. The competition is part of a nationwide trend, with several states mimicking the event.
The contest not only brings attention to the hardworking snowplow operators but also provides an opportunity for the public to get creative. This year’s winners include names such as We’re Off To See The Blizzard and Snowtorious B.I.G., which will be displayed on 44 named snowplows across the state.
The contest is a fun way to engage with the community and acknowledge the efforts of those who work tirelessly during harsh winter conditions. With more than 7,300 submissions, it’s clear that Minnesotans are eager to participate in this unique event.
