Mississippi College will cease operations after the current football season and rebrand as Mississippi Christian University by 2026. The decision marks a significant shift in the institution’s identity, with President Blake Thompson stating that it aims to become a comprehensive university recognized for academic excellence.
The college’s sports teams currently compete in NCAA Division II, but will transition to 17 varsity sports once football is discontinued. MC Athletic Director Kenny Bizot cited increasing costs and changing landscape of college football as reasons for the decision.
