Mississippi voters in Leake, Neshoba and Winston counties elected a new candidate to represent them in the Mississippi Senate District 18 special legislative election on Tuesday, April 15. The election was triggered by former Republican Senator Jenifer Branning’s appointment to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
The candidates, who must run as nonpartisan in the special election, are Mark Forsman, Lane Taylor, Jackson ‘Ike’ Melton, Marty Sistrunk, and Lindsey Kidd. Here’s a brief overview of each candidate:
Mark Forsman is a businessman with conservative Christian values. He wants to rebuild small towns through policies that strengthen local economies and develop the workforce.
Lane Taylor is an auctioneer who believes in running government like a business. He opposes “wasteful spending” and prioritizes infrastructure development.
Jackson ‘Ike’ Melton is a farmer, teacher, and volunteer who aims to protect rural heritage and educate citizens.
Marty Sistrunk is a farmer and businessman who wants to attract new businesses and improve infrastructure in Neshoba County.
Lindsey Kidd, the only veteran candidate, wants to help small businesses, create jobs, and strengthen the economy. He also supports gun ownership under the 2nd Amendment and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
