Mistral AI has launched a new free tier for developers to test and build applications using its AI models. The move comes as the startup looks to compete with other major players in the industry, such as OpenAI and Google, which also offer free tiers for developers.
The new tier is available through Mistral’s API-serving platform, La Plateforme, and allows developers to experiment, evaluate, and prototype with its AI models at no cost. However, developers may need to upgrade to a paid commercial tier in order to use the models in production.
In addition to the free tier, Mistral has also cut prices by more than 50% for access to its API endpoints for several of its AI models, including Mistral NeMo, Mistral Small, and Codestral. The company’s large model, Mistral Large, will now be available at a price reduced by 33%.
Furthermore, Mistral has announced the availability of its first multimodal model, Pixtral 12B, which can process both images and text. This new AI model is now available on le Chat, allowing users to scan, analyze, and search image files.
The move is seen as a bid by Mistral to attract more developers to its platform and build a larger user base.
