Japanese rookie Miyu Yamashita won the AIG Women’s Open by two shots, claiming her first career LPGA Tour victory and major title at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales. The 24-year-old Olympian finished with a total of 11-under-par to overcome Korean major champion A Lim Kim’s strong start.
Yamashita began the final round one-stroke ahead of Kim but remained focused as Charley Hull made a late charge. However, Yamashita’s steady play and precise putting secured her lead, allowing her to win her first major championship.
The victory marks Yamashita’s 21st LPGA Tour win in 2025, solidifying her position as one of the top players on the tour. This achievement has also earned her a spot on the Japan Team at the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown, a prestigious tournament she had set her sights on at the beginning of the season.
Yamashita expressed her satisfaction with winning on her 24th birthday and after years of dedication to improving her game. Her triumph is also notable as she became the first athlete since Juli Inkster in 2000 to win a major championship on their birthday weekend, and her victory comes just months before the International Crown.
