Moana 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 animated hit, has already become the fourth-highest-grossing film of the year, with a domestic total of $337.5 million and a worldwide gross of $717 million.
The movie follows Moana’s new adventure as she reunites with Maui for an epic voyage across Oceania. After receiving a mysterious call from her ancestors, Moana must navigate treacherous waters to uncover the truth about her people’s past.
Meanwhile, Wicked continues its reign at number two, earning $22.5 million in its fourth week of release and solidifying its global total of $525 million.
However, not all films are faring as well. Kraven the Hunter, a solo Spider-Man film, has struggled with poor reviews and declining interest, grossing only $26 million worldwide despite opening to a meager $11 million domestically.
Other releases include Gladiator II, which earned $7.8 million in its fourth week of release, and Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which debuted with a modest $4 million in the US and $10.3 million worldwide.
