Modder Achieves Windows Boot on Intel “Bartlett Lake” CPU on Standard Z790 Motherboard

Intel’s long-awaited gaming CPU, the Core 200 “Bartlett Lake-S,” was designed for commercial and industrial PC OEM markets. However, a modder has successfully booted the processor into Windows operating system on a standard Z790 motherboard, overcoming previous limitations.

The flagship “Bartlett Lake” Core 9 273PQE is a 12-core, 24-thread processor featuring up to 5.8 GHz performance and a unique P-core-only design. This sets it apart from Intel’s hybrid desktop CPUs. The modder achieved this by modifying the motherboard firmware, allowing the system to accept the chip during early boot.

The processor’s high clock speed is impressive, but its limitations in gaming performance are expected due to its industrial design. The chipset that supports it doesn’t support memory overclocking, limiting it to DDR5 5600 speeds. This makes it less appealing for gamers and enthusiasts who prefer more mainstream CPUs like the Core i9-13900K.

The modder’s achievement is a testament to the power of DIY engineering and community-driven innovation. However, this setup is experimental, and future BIOS updates may complicate or prevent such modifications.
