In the wake of the refreshed Model 3, speculation is growing about a potential refresh for the top-selling electric vehicle, the Model Y.
The Model Y was unveiled in 2019 and has become one of the most popular cars globally. Recent “leaks” suggest a new model with a rear light bar, but CEO Elon Musk has stated that there will be no refresh this year.
Despite this, experts believe the Model Y needs an update to keep customers interested. The refreshed Model 3 provides clues about what we might see in the future Model Y. Some possible upgrades include:
* Rear: Updated taillights and bumper
* Cameras: Additional camera for enhanced Autopilot and FSD capabilities
* Battery: Larger battery pack (up to 95 kWh) for increased range
The refreshed Model 3 Highland also offers some guidance, with a new front end featuring slimmer headlights and a cleaner bumper.
Key features of the refreshed Model 3 include:
* Performance: Up to 510 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
* Front: Sleeker hood and low-profile headlights for better aerodynamics
* Ride: Frequency response dampeners for a smoother ride
* Tires: Upgraded tires and wheels for increased range and less noise
* Seats: Ventilated seats
* Cabin: Quieter cabin due to acoustic glass
* Screen: Rear screen for passengers
* Stalkless: Removal of stalks on the steering wheel, moving physical controls to thumb buttons
* Controls: More software-based controls, such as a gear selector integrated into the touch screen
* Sound: Upgraded sound system
* Hardware 4 (HW4): Latest computing power and sensor capabilities for Autopilot and FSD.
