Moderna has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its new Covid-19 vaccine, mNexspike. The company’s existing vaccine, Spikevax, will continue to be available on the market. While the new vaccine is not being used immediately as a replacement for Spikevax, both vaccines will remain accessible to people in need of protection against Covid-19. According to Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel, the approval of mNexspike adds an important tool to combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which claimed over 47,000 American lives last year.
