Modi’s Party Sweeps Delhi Assembly Election Victory

India’s capital city of New Delhi is set to change hands in the assembly election, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a major victory, forming the government with over 40 seats. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has governed the capital area for a decade, trailed behind with about 20 seats.

BJP leader Modi claimed “development wins” and “good governance triumphs,” as his party took advantage of the AAP’s struggles against corruption accusations and jailed leaders.

The election was marred by controversy over alleged irregularities, including allegations that the number of registered voters exceeded the adult population in Maharashtra, a key battleground state.

Despite a campaign filled with generous promises and colorful tactics, many residents in Delhi expressed skepticism about the change, citing concerns over basic services like water supply and sanitation. The region’s air quality is also severely polluted during winter months.
