Monster Hunter Wilds: A Decade of Difficulty, But I’m Not Worried Yet

Monster Hunter: World – Elder Crossing may have been a launch title that sparked debate about its ease, but after a decade of playing the subsequent titles, including Rise and World, I’m confident that Monster Hunter: Wilds is not too easy.

When the new game was released, it sparked controversy, with critics questioning whether it would be too accessible for seasoned players. As someone who has spent years mastering Master Rank hunts, I can attest that this sentiment is unfounded. The last few Monster Hunter games have had extensive post-launch support, including free updates and paid expansions, which added new challenges to the game.

The release of Arch-Tempered monsters in World brought AT Kirin, and the Iceborne expansion introduced Master Rank, a modern reincarnation of G-Rank difficulty from older Monster Hunter games. Rise’s pre-expansion updates also dropped Apex monsters and elder dragons, leading up to a brutal endgame that required strategy and skill.

My experience is different from that of new players who are trying to navigate the game for the first time. I’ve already mastered the intricacies of armor skills, monster behaviors, and weapon combos, thanks to years of playing Master Rank hunts.

Rather than worrying about Wilds being too easy, I’d rather see if it’s a conversation worth having in two years. The game’s difficulty is not just about individual monsters, but also about understanding the complex systems and mechanics that underlie the gameplay.

Only time will tell if Monster Hunter: Wilds is indeed too easy, but for now, I’m confident that veteran players like myself can handle whatever challenges it throws our way.
