Moots’ Unreleased Bikes Shown Off at Made Bike Show in Portland

The 2023 Made Bike Show in Portland, Oregon, offered a diverse range of bikes on display, featuring various builds from road to mountain and beyond. This installment highlights a special bike designed by renowned framebuilder Jeffrey Bock for a repeat client’s anniversary celebration.

Bock, based in Ames, Iowa, has been building bicycles and teaching the craft for 50 years, with a specialty in lugged road and randonneuring bikes. For this year’s show, he unveiled an all-road bike commissioned by a customer to celebrate his 50-year framebuilding career milestone. The project features a Campagnolo 80th anniversary Super Record groupset, except for TRP calipers.

The “Anniversary Bike” showcases Bock’s expertise in lugged joints, utilizing Richard Sach’s Rene Singer Lugs, which he claims offer a modern cast component with minimal manipulation required for wall thickness and shoreline shaping. The bike features an unconventional randonneuring geometry, thanks to the lugs, while also meeting the customer’s unique requests.

These requests included a dynamo lighting solution that could be easily removed without disturbing the electrical system, as well as carbon handlebars with increased clamping diameter due to the customer’s preference. Bock successfully incorporated these elements into the bike’s design, resulting in an exceptional all-road build.
