Moyes Blasts Jota’s Goal as “Very Easy Decision”

Everton manager David Moyes believes that Diogo Jota’s winning goal in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby was wrongly disallowed for offside. The 57th-minute strike saw Jota net the only goal of the game, with Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch’s attempted pass to Luis Diaz appearing to have a clear offside position.

Moyes stated that he thinks the player behind Tarkowski (Diaz) interfered with his clearance, making it an “offside offence.” He believes the decision was not difficult and should have been given. Liverpool head coach Arne Slot agreed that the goal was clear but also acknowledged that VAR would be frustrated if they had to enforce the rules in a situation like this.

Moyes also commented on another incident where Everton defender James Tarkowski received a yellow card for a challenge on Alexis Mac Allister, which was reviewed by VAR and deemed not severe enough for a red. Moyes believed it was a good tackle and questioned why they weren’t given a more serious penalty.

The match marked the latest chapter in a long-standing rivalry between Liverpool and Everton. The two teams will meet again this weekend when Liverpool visit Fulham on Sunday, while Everton host Arsenal on Saturday.
