MSFS 2024 Launch Issues Addressed with Fixes and Free Aircraft

The Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) team has apologized for the turbulent launch of its 2024 version, outlining fixes, and offering four free aircraft as a gesture of goodwill.

The team acknowledged that server overload was the primary cause of issues, including widespread crashes, long loading times, and low-quality textures. However, they emphasized that the Content Delivery Network (CDN) infrastructure worked well during MSFS 2020. The unprecedented demand for the new version led to critical oversights in planning.

To address these challenges, the team has released two stability patches and plans to deploy a third substantial update next week. This update will tackle issues such as texture streaming optimizations, Xbox performance improvements, and fixes for Career mode bugs.

The team has also addressed community concerns, including the reliance on cloud streaming and encrypted aircraft packages. They plan to offer users the ability to permanently install selected aircraft and airports, reducing dependency on cloud streaming.

As a gesture of goodwill, the team is offering four additional free aircraft, including the Cessna 185F and Embraer Paulistinha. The remaining two aircraft will be announced later.

Looking ahead, the team remains optimistic about the platform’s future, with plans for several updates in 2025, including world updates, city updates, quarterly sim updates, and unannounced surprises. They expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and detailed feedback, which they believe is crucial to improving the simulator.
