Cable news giant MSNBC is set to rebrand itself with a new name, My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW), in a corporate spinoff from Comcast. The change aims to reflect the network’s mission to provide “breaking news and best-in-class opinion journalism.”
The move follows the separation of various NBCUniversal TV channels into a new company called Versant, which will require the networks to stop using the NBC brand. CNBC will retain its initials but will feature a new logo.
MSNBC’s rebranding is seen as an opportunity to chart its own path and establish an independent news organization. The network has been hiring journalists in preparation for this change, aiming to avoid confusion with NBC News.
The name MS NOW is inspired by MSN, the internet service developed by Microsoft in the 1990s. Despite initial plans to rebrand after NBC’s split from Microsoft, the name persisted due to its strong association with the network.
MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler assures employees that the rebranding will not change the network’s core identity or editorial focus. Instead, a major marketing campaign will be launched to promote the new brand and engage audiences.
The change is expected to take place by the end of the year, marking a significant shift for MSNBC as it embarks on this new chapter in its history.
