MSU Basketball Edges Past Ohio State 69-62

Michigan State basketball’s 69-62 win over Ohio State on Friday night was a crucial victory that answers some of the team’s biggest questions. The Spartans, who entered January with concerns about finishing close games and managing pressure in difficult environments, proved they have the goods to contend for a Big Ten title.

Coach Tom Izyo’s lineup decisions were spot-on, particularly the four-man rotation of Jeremy Fears Jr., Jaden Akins, Tre Holloman, and Coen Carr. The combination worked well in the second half, with Akins scoring a game-sealing bank shot with 2:30 remaining on the clock.

The Spartans’ skill at big man is also evident. Szymon Zapala excelled in various areas, including creating space for himself and others to drive. Jaxon Kohler provided a crucial play by passing the ball over his own back to Zapala, who then scored an easy layup. Xavier Booker added significant contributions with his quick drives, bank shots, and defensive prowess.

Coen Carr’s development continues to be a reason to believe in the Spartans’ potential. His increased ability to take and make 3-pointers, drive to the basket, and finish on the move makes him a force to be reckoned with closer to the rim. With his growth, MSU becomes a more well-rounded team.

The 12-2 Spartans now head into their next challenge with renewed confidence after proving they can overcome adversity and manage pressure in tough situations.
