Multiple Companies Recall Cucumbers Due to Salmonella Outbreak

A salmonella outbreak in the US has prompted multiple companies to recall whole fresh cucumbers and foods made with them. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 70 people were infected, with 18 hospitalized across 19 states.

The CDC is urging consumers to check their homes for recalled cucumbers and foods like sushi, salads, wraps, and veggie trays with cucumbers. To ensure safety, wash items and surfaces that might have touched the recalled cucumbers using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

The outbreak, which began in mid-November, is linked to produce grown in Sonora, Mexico, by Agrotato S.A. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) previously announced a recall on November 28, which was tied to the outbreak.

Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Most people will recover without treatment after four to seven days. The FDA’s investigation is ongoing.

Consumers can check the CDC website for a list of impacted companies and products. If you have purchased cucumbers or foods made with them during the specified recall period, contact your store to see if they are part of the recall.
