A two-year bridge repair and pavement rehab project on Interstate 394 is set to start on Monday, July 14, causing lane closures that may not be fully felt for another two weeks. The E-ZPass lanes between downtown and Hwy. 100 will close during this time, shifting about 5,000 vehicles a day into the general travel lanes.
Another road work project along Hwy. 55 in Plymouth is also down to one lane from Penn Avenue to Hwy. 100. This has caused frustration among motorists like Erich Morris, who believes that planning for detour design and access is inadequate. State Rep. Andrew Myers (R-Tonka Bay) shares this concern, citing the added gridlock traffic on his commute due to I-94 lane closures.
The concurrent projects have raised questions about why they are being stacked together. The I-94 lane closures have already added 20 minutes of gridlock traffic to Myers’ daily commute, and he expects the upcoming E-ZPass lane closure to increase this time substantially.
