Warner Bros. Games has announced that the upcoming fifth season of its fighting game, Multiversus, will be the game’s final update. The new season is scheduled to start on February 4 and will end on May 30, but players will still be able to play offline “for the foreseeable future.” This means that players can enjoy the game without an internet connection after the servers shut down.
The game’s decision to end support comes as no surprise, given recent financial struggles. In November, Warner Bros. Discovery chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels mentioned that Multiversus was a major contributor to the company’s $100 million writedown. The game’s poor performance has also led to significant layoffs at WB Games Montreal.
Despite its ups and downs, fans of Multiversus have always been fond of the game. Its unique blend of characters from popular franchises like Samurai Jack and LeBron James has made it a standout title in the fighting game genre. Although the game is shutting down, players will still be able to enjoy it offline after May 30.
Players can keep their purchased content by launching the game at least once during the last season. A local save file will be created connected to the player’s account, allowing them to play the game without an internet connection and access all earned and purchased content.
