Warner Bros. Games has announced that development on the popular fighting game MultiVersus is ending, with the game going offline on May 30. The game will remain playable offline, but players will no longer be able to download it as of the end of season 5.
The final season, which kicks off on February 4, will feature two new playable characters: DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. All content from this season can be earned through gameplay, with a total of 35 playable characters available by its conclusion.
MultiVersus was first released in July 2022 as an open beta before being retooled to improve its netcode, matchmaking, and progression system. The game relaunched in May 2024 with significant changes and new content. However, player interest appears to have declined since then, according to data from Steam Charts and Twitch viewership.
Despite this decline, MultiVersus remains a popular free-to-play fighting game available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The developer has expressed gratitude for the support of the community, stating that they will “forever be grateful” for their contributions to the game’s development.
