MusiCares Gala Honors Grateful Dead with Star-Studded Lineup

The 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year benefit gala will honor the Grateful Dead, featuring an A-list group of performers. The event, set for January 31, includes a lineup of top artists such as Noah Kahan, John Mayer, Dead & Company, Vampire Weekend, and Maren Morris.

The gala is also notable for its tribute to founding bassist Phil Lesh, who passed away in October at age 85. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s death, a milestone the event aims to celebrate.

Past honorees include Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen. The MusiCares event has raised $2 million for wildfire relief funds since its inception.

The lineup showcases both solo artists and bands, marking only the third time a band will receive the award. Garcia and Lesh will be the first recipients of the honor posthumously, with the Grateful Dead’s music and legacy being celebrated by Weir, Lesh, Hart, and Kreutzmann in a statement: “It’s about making sure the people behind it get the support they need.”
