US tech billionaire Elon Musk has called on the US government to “delete entire agencies” in a bid to improve efficiency and reduce bureaucracy. As part of President Donald Trump’s administration, Musk is leading a new entity under the DOGE umbrella. The South African-born entrepreneur believes that by cutting out unproductive parts of the government, it can strengthen its foundations substantially.
Musk aims to reduce federal deficits by $1 trillion by 2026 through increased efficiency and regulation cuts. He compared this effort to removing weeds from a garden, stating that even if some may return, removing their roots makes it harder for them to grow back. This approach has already been implemented at the US Agency for International Development (USAID), where most staff have been furloughed and funding has been frozen.
