Billionaire Elon Musk has called on the US and Europe to eliminate tariffs between the two regions, aiming to create a free trade zone. In a video interview with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, Musk expressed his hope that both sides can move towards a zero-tariff situation.
Musk advised President Donald Trump to strengthen ties with European countries and emphasized the need for greater freedom of movement between the US and Europe. He stated that people should be allowed to work in either region without restrictions.
This comes as a response to Trump’s recent decision to impose sweeping tariffs on nearly every major country, including the EU, China, and 57 other trading partners. The initial 10% tariff took effect on Thursday, with higher taxes set to start later this week.
European leaders have vowed to retaliate against the tariffs, warning of dire consequences for millions of people worldwide. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described Americans as “our oldest ally” who feels let down by the US decision.
